Do you want to exclude sensitive data collected in your surveys from your analysis ?
Enable the verbatim desensitization option to manage the words to be excluded when collecting feedbacks with verbatim in your survey.
Accessibility
Verbatim desensitization is available to all users.
This feature is active as long as you have enabled it when creating the "Text field" element in your survey. It is not retroactive and does not require verbatim analysis to be activated.
When this option is enabled, all words collected in this open-ended question will automatically be normalized to lowercase and stripped of accents. Case sensitivity and accents will therefore be ignored to facilitate feedback consolidation : "diabetes", "diabete", and "Diabete" will be considered the same word.
Verbatim desensitization is compatible with Skeepers' verbatim analysis option.
When both options are enabled, only the verbatim answers allowed by desensitization will be analyzed.
Although this feature can be activated by any user in campaigns, only users with the "Account settings" right can add, modify, or delete masked terms.
Requirements
- At least one "Text field" element must be created in your survey
Use cases
There are many situations where excluding certain words or phrases from your verbatim answers is necessary.
Open-ended questions or text fields are not always intended to collect personal data. It is sometimes necessary to avoid skewing analyses with potentially sensitive information (contact details, offensive language, etc.).
Verbatim desensitization helps maintain confidentiality and ensures targeted and relevant analysis. Additionally, you can choose to exclude specific terms related to your company or industry. These may include abbreviations, internal product names, or recurring phrases that could bias the overall analysis of feedback. This customization ensures more relevant data usage.
Activate verbatim desensitization
To enable verbatim desensitization, simply create a "Text field" element in your survey.
Go to the advanced settings of your element and check "Verbatim desensitization". Save your changes.
Once verbatim desensitization is activated on an open-ended question, each respondent’s written feedback is analyzed directly from their browser by Skeepers. If words, sequences, or expressions marked for exclusion are detected, they are automatically replaced with generic terms (or patterns). Thus, the original data is never collected or stored.
Default exclusions and term replacement
Skeepers provides a default list of excluded words. The predefined terms cover general topics (health, religion, sexuality, politics, origin, etc.).
The following excluded elements are systematically replaced by Skeepers :

Manage excluded words
Only users with the "Account settings" right can manage excluded words in verbatim feedbacks.
You can easily enrich the list of excluded words by adding your own terms or replacing existing ones.
To view and edit this list, navigate to the "Settings" tab in the left-sidebar, then click on "Verbatim desensitization" in the "Campaigns" section.
To add excluded words, insert a new line in the list and enter the desired term or phrase. Do not forget to save.
Plural and gender variations are not automatically handled, so you need to manually add them if necessary.
