Do you want to restrict the number of answers to your surveys or set up a continuation option in case of abandonment ?
By accessing the settings of your campaign, you can control the participation management, including the allowance for multiple answers and the automatic saving of survey progress.
Allow multiple answers to the survey
By default, a participant can submit multiple answers to the same survey, as long as they still have access. The platform offers a participation management feature, allowing you to set restrictions based on your criteria to limit new answer submissions.
Only one answer per visit | Only one answer per visitor | Only one answer per attribute value |
---|---|---|
Prevents another answer within a short period of time |
Prevents another answer by identifying the browser trackers |
Prevents another answer by identifying a specific tracking data from the platform |
The same visitor can only submit a new answer after 25 minutes |
The same visitor cannot submit a new answer |
A participant identified by a specific attribute cannot submit a new answer |
The survey visit is recorded and identified using the browser cookies |
The visitor of a survey is recorded and identified using the browser trackers |
The participant of a survey is identified using a unique attribute value tracked by the tracking defined in Skeepers |

It is essential to select an attribute that will have a unique value for each participant (client ID, email address, etc.). If you choose an attribute whose value may be shared by multiple participants, the answer restriction will apply to all concerned persons, and they will not be able to access the survey or submit a answer |
This answer limit is incompatible in the following cases :
|
This option is relevant if a participant is no longer meant to be contacted for the same campaign or if you do not have a unique identifier |
If a participant can be contacted again by the same campaign, make sure to choose an attribute related to their journey (order number, intervention number, etc.) rather than their identity |
If you have previously defined participation management rules in your campaign settings, and a respondent attempts to access the survey without being authorized, the default message will appear :
“You are not allowed to submit a new feedback.”
This message will appear when opening the survey if the participant tries to access it again without meeting the conditions defined by your participation management rules. It may also appear if the identification attribute you configured is missing (not populated).
If you have also enabled the continuation of the campaign (see the following section of the article), the respondent will then see the last page displayed when submitting their first answer.
The message can be customized for all campaigns or for a specific campaign in the campaign extra content named “Unauthorized” (learn more about survey extra content).
When your campaign is inactive or in "Test Mode", the multiple answer authorization is not applied, allowing you to submit as many answers as you want. This lets you perform all necessary tests before finally deploying the campaign.
In the case of a survey trigger on a website (Web or InPage deployments), the answer limit is not applicable.
Allow survey progress auto-saving
By default, if no restriction on the number of allowed answers is configured in the campaign, a participant who abandons a survey and wishes to return to it will have to start over from the beginning.
The platform offers a campaign continuation feature, allowing you to set criteria when a participant wants to continue the survey where they left off.
With these configurations, the respondent resumes their journey in the survey, on the last page displayed when they initially abandoned the survey, for a duration that you can define.
By enabling this option, the respondent who accesses the survey again will be able to continue from the last page they viewed before abandoning it, for a period that you can define.
This option is useful for longer surveys that contain multiple pages, or if the first question is saved at click for an email deployment.
Identify respondent by visit | Identify respondent by attribute value | Identify respondent by Email or SMS sent from Skeepers |
---|---|---|
Allows campaign continuation within a short period |
Allows campaign continuation across multiple devices |
Allows campaign continuation across multiple devices, for sends from Skeepers |
Option available by default |
This option is not available if you deploy an anonymous survey, with no segment or attribute attached to your campaign |
This option is only available if you send your campaign via an Email or SMS deployment through Skeepers |
A visitor who comes back to the same survey (via the same deployment) can continue where they left off, for a period of 30 minutes |
A participant (identified by a unique attribute value) who comes back to the same survey (via the same deployment) can continue where they left off, for a period that you can define |
A participant who comes back to the same survey (via the same deployment sent via Skeepers) can continue where they left off, for a period that you can define |
The abandonment and resumption of the survey by a visitor are identified using the browser trackers |
The abandonment and resumption of the survey by a participant are identified using the tracking defined in Skeepers |
The abandonment and resumption of the survey by a participant are identified using a unique send identifier managed by Skeepers (solicitation) |
Survey continuation will not be effective :
|
This option is relevant to allow the participant to resume the survey across devices, whether they change their browser or device (mobile, desktop, or tablet) |

It is essential to select an attribute that will have a unique value for each participant (customer ID, email address, etc.). If you choose an attribute whose value may be shared by multiple participants, the continuation will apply to all relevant individuals If you also set a limit on the number of answers per attribute value, the selected attribute will be automatically selected for both options |
If you have set up continuation rules for the campaign and a participant starts a survey, abandons it, and then completes it several hours or days later, the timestamp of the feedback will always be that of the moment when the participant clicked on the first page submission button of the survey. Missing answers from their first attempt will automatically be added to the feedback of your campaign if they provide them during their subsequent attempts.
Unlike the multiple answer authorization settings, the campaign continuation option remains functional, even when your campaign is inactive or in "Test Mode".
