Translate a campaign

Translating a campaign allows you not only to design your survey in the language of your choice but also to make it available in different languages based on the respondent's preferred language.

In this article, we explain that by creating a single campaign, you can make it accessible in multiple languages.

If your goal is to ensure each respondent accesses a survey in the appropriate language, we invite you to consult our article Translation management overview.

Requirements

First of all, we invite you to define the target audience of your campaign as well as the languages in which the survey will be deployed.

Translating a survey occurs in the final steps before launching the campaign. Indeed, we recommend setting up translations only once your survey is ready to be sent in its initial language. This allows you to complete translations only once, instead of returning to the settings each time an element is changed or added in the campaign.

To ensure an optimal experience for your respondents, we recommend prioritizing "standard" languages in your surveys (example : "English"). Using "regional variants" (example : "English (United Kingdom") may result in other regional variants (example : "English (United States)") not being recognized by the platform when displaying your survey. Thus, standard languages cover all their regional variants and ensure optimal compatibility.

Accessing campaign translation settings

By default, a survey's language is not defined. Therefore, you need to access the campaign settings to select the default display language. First, click on the gear icon located in the center at the top of your survey, then click the "Settings" button.

In the 'General' section of the campaign settings, simply choose the appropriate language from the dropdown list detailing the survey’s original language.

Once this is done, still in the campaign settings, go to the 'Translate' section and click on the "Add new  language" button.

Here, you will have three options to complete your translations :

Please note that in addition to textual content, you can also provide translations for graphic content. These must be manually imported into the translation.

In its translated version, the imported visual will replace the picture configured in the survey’s original language.

Your translations are ready when they are all completed. The final step is to manage the language to make it available to the appropriate respondents.

Automatic survey translation

To save you valuable time in configuring your survey translations, we offer an integrated tool that automatically translates survey content.

By pressing the "Translate all" button, all the content of your survey (except visuals) will be translated into the selected target language.

Here is an overview of the translations that our integrated automatic translation tool can offer :

You can force the translation of an element by pressing the blue arrow button.

Of course, you can review the proposed translations at any time. We simply advise not to press the "Translate all" button again if you have already made modifications to certain elements, as this will erase all your corrections and replace them with the default automatic translation.

Automatic translation provides an initial completion of elements, but we strongly recommend that a language expert read over the content. This tool saves time ; however, a review on your part is essential to ensure an optimal translation.

Manual survey translation

Alongside automatic translation, you have the option to manually complete the translations for each element of your survey. To do so, simply fill in the empty fields next to the labels.

For rich content, to avoid altering the graphic aspect, it is recommended to replace the original text with your translation. This does not affect the rich content in the survey’s default language.

If you make changes to your campaign, you may have new elements to translate ; you will find the number of changes to review in your list of translations.

In these conditions, it is possible to display only the missing translations to target specific actions.

Survey translation by CSV file import

Finally, the last option allows you to import your own translation into the platform.

If you have a native speaker in the target language, this will be the most optimal option.

To proceed, first download the file detailing the required format. Simply press the "Actions" button and then "Export to CSV".

Then, complete the translation in column D of the CSV file.

Next, import the CSV file into the platform.

If the import is a success, the following message will appear, and your translations will be automatically imported into the platform.

If there is an error in completing the file or an incorrect import format, an error message will appear, and you will need to make the necessary adjustments before importing the file again.

Lines not completed in your CSV file will remain empty in the platform by default.

For rich content, to avoid altering the visual design, it is recommended to edit the textual content by replacing the original text with your translation. This does not impact the rich content in the survey's default language.

If you wish to import a translation in a language not yet supported in the platform, please contact Skeepers Support. We can make this new language available in the platform within a month, with no additional associated cost.
