How to create an attribute

Attributes offer undeniable added value to your campaigns and analyses. This article will guide you step by step through the creation of your attributes.

Before diving into the creation steps, are you sure you fully understand what an attribute is? If not, we recommend reading our article What is an Attribute? to understand the fundamentals.

Create an Attribute

  • In the side menu, click on "Tracking" then "Attributes".

  • Now click on "Create a new Attribute" in the top right corn
  • To configure your Attribute, give it a name (the System name will be filled in automatically).

Optional:

Filling in the "Description" field helps you remember its function more easily and will assist you (and your colleagues) in recognizing it later.

Note:

If your account is a Child account, you may receive an error message indicating that the name or label already exists. In that case, please contact your Group Administrator to find out the exact labels to use.

Select an Attribute Type

  • Text: The Attribute will accept any string of characters. Character count is limited to 250 (156 if encrypted).
  • Numeric: The Attribute will only accept a string of digits. If your sequence includes other characters, they will be ignored.
  • Date: The Attribute will only accept dates. You specify the expected format, for example [#day]-[#month]-[#year] for 03-07-2022
  • Object: Object-type attributes are specific to loops. Learn more.
  • Value list: You define a list of values (up to 1000), and any others will be ignored.
  • Email: The Attribute will only accept email addresses. If the format is incorrect, it will be ignored.
  • Phone number: The Attribute will only accept phone numbers. If the format is incorrect, it will be ignored.

  • Then, configure its default value:

Undefined: no value set.

  • Value: define its default value—number, text, etc. You have options.
  • Contact field: links an attribute to a Contact field for email or SMS sending via Skeepers.

💡 By checking yes for the “Attach this attribute to the respondent” option, the attribute will be associated with the respondent (in addition to a feedback) and can be reused later.

  • Don’t forget to .

If you want to create a date attribute in the format "yyyy-MM-dd ‘T’ HH:mm:ss.SSSZ", you must select "[#year]-[#month]-[#day]\T[#hour]:[#minute]:[#second].v\Z" as the value.

Here is a description of each element:

  • "yyyy" corresponds to the year (example: "2001" for the year 2001)
  • "MM" corresponds to the month in the year (example: "07" for July)
  • "dd" is the day of the month (example: "04" for the 4th day)
  • "T" is required to separate the date from the time
  • "HH" is the hour (example: "13" for 1 pm); accepted values are 0 to 23
  • "mm" is the minute (example: "59" for the 59th minute)
  • "ss" is the second (example: "45" for the 45th second)
  • "SSS" is the millisecond (example: "235" for the 235th millisecond)
  • "Z" is the time zone (example: "-700" for UTC-7)

Attach your attribute(s) to a segment

To better understand why it’s essential to link your attributes to one or more segments, read the article: segments and segment groups

  • In the side menu, click on "Segments"

  • Then "Edit" (an existing segment).

  • Finally, search for the previously created attribute(s), then save.

  • Here, the attribute "prenom_client" is correctly linked to the segment "web buyer".

Each time the segment "Post-purchase satisfaction" is selected during a deployment, the linked attributes will be automatically included. You will thus enrich your responses with contextual data.
