How to create or use an SMS template

To meet various internal and customer communication requirements, Skeepers allows you to easily configure your own SMS templates.

If you want to deploy a survey via SMS or automate alerts and notifications by SMS, this article is for you.

Accessibility

Account permissions related to SMS sending must be activated beforehand to access SMS templates.

With the appropriate permissions (which you can find in our dedicated article), go to the 'Settings' section in the left-hand menu of the platform. Then select 'SMS Templates' under the 'GENERAL' section.

On this page, you will find a list of all existing SMS templates in your organization's account.

If you do not have access to the 'Settings' section, please send a request to your local administrator to grant you the "Account Settings" user permission.

Managing SMS Templates

By navigating through your SMS template list, accessible from your 'Settings' section, you can create new templates as well as edit, duplicate, or delete existing ones.

You cannot delete an SMS template that is still active in a campaign or has already been sent.

  • By clicking the Edit button next to a specific template, you can access and modify it.
  • By clicking , you can start creating a new SMS template.

Configuring an SMS Template

After creating or opening an SMS template, begin configuring it in the 'Edit' tab.

Unlike email templates, SMS templates have limited customization options due to the format's constraints, which Skeepers cannot override. Therefore, formatting or images cannot be included in the SMS content.

However, you can still add text content and variables, which we detail in our dedicated article.

You can also define the SMS sender name based on your requirements.

We recommend selecting the original language of the SMS template now, so you can translate it later if needed. The translation configuration steps are detailed here.

The SMS body must not exceed 160 characters. Be cautious when adding variables, as their final value must stay within the character limit. If exceeded, the message will not be sent.

For a customer audience, and in compliance with GDPR, you must include "STOP SMS 36180".

Do not hesitate to check the following articles on the Skeepers blog for best practices:

Integrating variables into an SMS template

If you want to use a template for sending a survey via SMS, it is mandatory to add the [#url] variable, as this is the one that must be configured in your deployment to allow access to the survey.

If you would like to learn more about variables, feel free to explore all available variables, their uses, and restrictions in our dedicated article .

Using an SMS template

Skeepers SMS templates allow you to address a wide range of needs: inviting users to respond to a survey, internal notifications, or customer notifications.

The setup is simple within your campaigns and deployments.

Using an SMS template to deploy a campaign

You can use SMS templates to launch a deployment within a campaign. Simply follow the steps below:

  1. In the "Deployment" section of your campaign, select SMS deployment by clicking the Edit a deployment button.
  2. Select the SMS template you want to use for this deployment. You can also edit existing SMS templates or create new ones by clicking the Edit or Create buttons.
  3. Click . You can now activate your deployment by clicking , or keep it in test mode by clicking .

Using an SMS template for an SMS notification action

You can use SMS templates to set up automated notification actions.

These notifications can be sent internally within your organization (and to your service providers) or to your customers. They address a wide range of needs: alerting a store about a detractor customer, notifying a sales representative to call back a dissatisfied customer, thanking a customer after submitting a survey response, etc.

These notifications are configured within your campaign in the 'Actions' section. Feel free to refer to our dedicated article .

Translating an SMS template

This section of the article is intended for users who want to use an SMS template in a multilingual context (sending surveys or SMS notifications in multiple languages, etc.).

Once your SMS template configuration is complete and saved—whether you created or edited it— go to the 'Translate' tab.

Here, click the "Add a language" button to start the translation setup.

You just need to select the target language and translate the template into the language(s) of your choice.

As detailed in our article dedicated to how translations work in the platform , you have three ways to perform translations:

You can easily combine the different translation methods for greater flexibility: perform an initial global automatic translation, then revisit specific translations that do not fully meet your expectations. Your translations are ready once all of them are completed, as shown below.
